At Westminster she is the SNP’s spokesperson on International Development.

A Message from Anne:

“I’ve lived in the constituency for more than a decade and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Glasgow North East is wealthy beyond its wildest dreams in terms of the brilliant people and diverse communities. It’s not always had its fair share though and I’m proud to be one of the many voices fighting to level the playing field.

I’m originally from sunny Greenock (well it’s sunny on the day I’m writing this) but I’ve been in Glasgow since 1985 when I was accepted to the Royal Academy of Music and Drama to study acting. It was such an amazing place to study, but alas, my acting career was not to be!

I have a background in welfare rights, campaign management and training people in public speaking, having worked in in the third sector as a fundraiser for a disability charity before moving to a large cancer charity. I’ve worked as a care assistant in a nursing home and had several bar jobs, but I’ve also had two periods of unemployment, which in hindsight gave me a real understanding of what some of my constituents on low or no incomes are going through. These periods of unemployment and financial struggle really influenced my campaigning in Westminster where I have focused on issues like Pension Credit uptake and Prepayment Meter Customer’s rights.

When I’m not working I really enjoy travel and meeting new people, something I don’t think I will ever tire of. I live in a tenement in Dennistoun with my partner and my adorable cat, and I make the lovely commute to Gourock to look after my Mum every week.

Thanks for reading, and please remember, I’m here for you – get in touch!”
